Fresh off the heels of releasing their latest film, Mercury, Covered Sun Films decided to try something different, and allow fans of the studio to select their next project.

“We have a bunch of stories that we’ve written and I was having a hard time deciding what to shoot next. I figured why not let the audience help us decide?” Director Wayne Cella said recently.

Covered Sun put polls up on social media with descriptions of the films and allowed the fans to select their next project.

“It was a landslide. Almost everyone wanted [un]neighborly. It was a bit of a shock actually. I wrote that almost seven years ago, and it’s very different from anything we’ve ever shot before, which is fun and exciting.” Cella told us.

[un]neighborly is a psychological thriller/horror short film that reminds us that we don’t always really know the people around us. Even ones who live right next door.

Covered Sun has cast the project and production will start in mid-August.

Covered Sun’s own John Manning will play the co-lead Martin. This will be Manning’s first time working in front of the camera. Manning has co-written and co-produced Talisman and insignificant, but typically stays behind-the-scenes.

“John has wanted to spread his wings and contribute in a different capacity for a while now. We’ve discussed several ideas to get him in front of the camera instead of behind it, and this seems like the perfect opportunity to do that.”

Opposite Manning will be Professional Wrestler/Writer/Director/Leading Man extraordinaire, Jack Tomlinson. Jack is the founder of Bailey’s Pack Productions and has starred in numerous film and stage productions. Jack is also a highly decorated singles and tag team wrestler who has won numerous championships. He has wrestled matches for AEW, World Wrestling Entertainment and on the independent circuit. His recent film Rest in Memories is currently screening at film festivals.

Rounding out the cast will be Trish Leney. Trish appeared in Covered Sun’s award-winning drama series insignificant. Trish will be play gossipy neighbor, Mandy in the production and is an accomplished vocalist and actress.

[un]neighborly was written by Wayne Cella, who will also direct. Stay tuned for more updates!
